Can my bad hair transplant be fixed?

Hair transplants are a revolutionary procedure that can leave you with the perfect head of natural looking hair. At The Harley Street Hair Clinic, we’re experts in the advanced FUE hair transplant method and we pride ourselves on the natural and realistic results we produce.

From time to time we get clients visit us who have had a hair transplant elsewhere, some abroad, some from cheap clinics found in the UK who ask for our help. There is such a thing as a bad hair transplant, but in some cases, it can be fixed.

Today we’re discussing bad hair transplants and if we can fix them.

How does a hair transplant work?

Hair transplants work by transplanting hair from one area of the scalp and to another. By doing this you’ll be able to take hair from fuller areas of the head, such as the back and sides and transplant it to areas with little to no hair and create a natural looking full head of hair.

At The Harley Street Hair Clinic, we only offer the revolutionary follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant. Our treatment is non-invasive and leaves you with natural looking results as well as little to no scarring or evidence of the transplant.

Older, normally cheaper methods of hair transplants such as follicular unit transaction (FUT), commonly known as the strip method are slightly more invasive and can leave you large scars at the back of the scalp and results that do not look as natural.

My hair transplant left a scar

As mentioned above, less advanced hair transplant treatments such as FUT can lead to scarring. During an FUT transplant, a strip of hair is removed from the back of the scalp and then prepared and cut into smaller follicles ready to transplant.

Due to the transplanted hair being removed in a large strip, rather than individual follicles being removed with FUE you will notice a scar where the strip has been removed. Although the newly transplanted hair will have minimal scarring you will be left with a noticeable scar on the back of the scalp, which will make your hair transplant look quite noticeable.

Scarring from hair transplants is something we’re able to fix at the Harley Street Hair Clinic. With the use of our FUE procedure, we’re able to transplant hair and work to disguise the scar.

My hair transplant abroad isn’t what I expected

Medical tourism is becoming increasingly popular, people are drawn in by the idea of a cheap procedure and sometimes don’t consider all of the details. Researching a clinic in a different country can be tough, you won’t be able to find the same amount of information as you would for a UK clinic.

It is also important to remember that different countries have different medical boards and in some places, the criteria for clinics are not as strict. It also isn’t as easy to visit your clinic to check if out before your transplant, something that we highly recommend doing.

We have a lot of different clients visit us after getting a hair transplant abroad that didn’t get the results they wanted. Sometimes it’s simply not enough grafts were transplanted and their results are not as good as they want, in other cases, the transplant has not been handled correctly and the grafts have rejected.

If your hair transplant didn’t go as well as you had hoped this is something we can look into and possibly fix. It could be a case of needing a further transplant to get the density that you first wished for, but in some cases, it could be beyond repair, this is what our consultation process would help work out.

Hair transplant cost

In most cases when a client comes to us asking us to fix a bad hair transplant they went to a clinic that offers hair transplants at a much lower rate than most clinics. It is important to remember that cost is not the only thing to consider when getting a hair transplant.

Getting a cheap hair transplant can work out costing much more in the future. For example, getting a cheap hair transplant abroad can cost more than you expect when you include the cost of the long distance phone calls if anything goes wrong, as well as the cost of flights and accommodation if you need to return.

Even if you’re getting a great deal in the UK, you could still be at risk. Some cheaper hair transplants methods can leave you with a not so great hair transplant, something you’ll then have to pay to get fixed.
